Just back from a Vermont road trip. A meander up the back roads to Stowe.
First nite we stayed in the roadside motel in Bridgewater. Remember motels? This one is classic.
The next day we drove up Rte. 100. Stopped at the beautiful inn in Warren. Saw friends at the Warren Store. Cruised around the Mad River Valley.
Stowe is great this time of year. Its fun to see when there are leaves on the trees. We stayed at the phenomenal Stowehof, owned by Chris Grimes and family. Its a magnificent old Chalet with commanding views of the valley. Exposed trees were used for construction and structure.
Chris was a ski bum from the 60’s who worked in Boulders legendary Sink, as did I, worked at the DU house, as did I, and lived in his car in Aspen, as all of us old ski bums did in those days. Of course all things must end, and for Chris it was on to GE.
Retirement brought Chris back to skiing with his purchase of the Stowehof a few years back. They have been upgrading it ever since
If you are looking for “Old Vermont”, classic skiing or hiking and a great getaway, go stay with Chris at the Stowehof. And don’t miss afternoon tea.
