From 1878 til 1943 miles of two foot narrow gauge served northern and western Maines small communities. It is mostly gone now, but some of it still remains on Portlands waterfront at the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Company and Museum. The train runs from 11-4 daily until October 14, and even runs during the Christmas Holidays. You can start in the Old Port, and take a trip around Portlands Eastern Promenade.
For those of you closet engineers, for a small contribution to the Railroad Museum, you can come for the day and be the engineer! Its better than the trains you had as a kid!

Looking for something to do? Dreaming of Paris? Go see the movie La Vie en Rose, based on the life story of Edith Piaf, the legendary chanteuse of Paris whose music evokes the soul of France. Piaf, francais for “sparrow”, was discovered singing on the streets of Paris for food in 1935 and transformed herself into an extraordinary performer. Abandoned by her mother, given to her grandmother for a time, then torn from the prostitutes at her grandmothers home, and raised by her father in the Circus, the Piaf story is almost beyond belief.
But in the end you will always have Paris, and this story and the performance of Marion Cottilard as Edith is extraordinary.
Stop everything, go see it.
